Whole School News
From the Head of Teaching and Learning
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I cannot believe that a whole year has now passed. This week has been another amazing week at SIS with some outstanding displays of talent, commitment and creativity. There are not many schools that towards the end of the year step up the level of activity, but I feel this is one of the aspects that make us so very special.
On Tuesday night we experienced our Oliver extravaganza and what an extravaganza it was! Deepest congratulations to all the students who were involved in the performance. You really stepped up to the challenge. The confidence you have on stage is truly remarkable. Sincerest thanks to all the staff who were involved in the creation of Oliver; your coaching, support and creativity were second to none!
On Wednesday morning EC1 held their end of year celebration. On Wednesday evening we hosted our M5 Graduation, which was an intimate evening, with great performances, tear jerking speeches, celebrations and farewells.
Thursday witnessed our P6 graduation and Primary awards assembly, followed by our Secondary awards assembly. Congratulations to all students who earned an award.
We have experienced a thoroughly demanding, but enjoyable year. To help us make it even better next academic year, we would value your feedback and ask you please to complete one of the following questionnaires.

Summer Musical Evening
SIS, The Kindred Project and the Kijani Kenya Trust, have the pleasure to announce, for the first time ever, a “Summer Musical Evening” to be held at SIS on July 12th, 9pm, featuring celebrity performances from Africa and Europe.
We have taken a unique opportunity to unite international and local music masters to bring our intercultural values to life and offer priceless opportunities for our students to develop mastery around their passions. And all for a good cause, supporting health, education and conservation in Kenya!
The line up is simply exceptional, starring The Nairobi Chamber Chorus (NCC), Pippa Dames-Longworth – international Opera singer – performing with The Bridge Quartet from London and members of Malaga’s Symphonic Orchestra, Salvador Andrades flamenco group and our school’s finest soloists and musicians.
The headline act will be the Nairobi Chamber Chorus, the leading choral group in Kenya today. Its vision is a strong, well-trained musical community, which can use music to promote peace and cross-cultural understanding through quality performance of choral music. NCC, as seen representing Kenya at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in Windsor Castle, have travelled extensively in East Africa, the United States of America, and have performed with world-renowned musical companies.
A truly recommended concert for all, with performers that are bound to send our audience asking for more!
Tickets are now on sale at the school, prices ranging from €5 to €20. For more information contact us on firstname.lastname@example.org

VOPAK guest lecture to Global Citizenship Programme (GCP) students
SIS invited Mr. DewienJagmohan (Commercial Manager of VOPAK Terminal Algeciras) to give a lecture about his company and to share his experiences and thoughts regarding global citizenship. This was a great success, with over 50 students attending the interactive presentation. They, amongst others, learnt about the impact oil has in today’s world, and what oil transport looks like worldwide. Mr. Jagmohan emphasized that he missed GCP education during his study years, and that our students are lucky that SIS offers them the chance to learn about global themes. He gave interesting examples, where knowledge of other cultures, values and habits helped him closing business deals.
Some students’ comments:
Ellie Gonzalvez (M3): I’m actually interested in another talk, because he has a fantastic job, travels across the world and meets different people. The company also cares for the environment and helps other people in water projects.
Harry Nicholls (M4): Although you don´t get a grade for GCP, it can certainly be used in real life situations at all times.
Rufus Lewis (M4): It made me realise that global citizenship is more important than I thought it was, because the way he explained how it could affect my future and the way it could affect closing business deals.
Mr. Jagmohan has been invited to give more guest lectures at SIS next academic year.
Carlota Sánchez, M4 student, was chosen to present #TwitterArt to Twitter’s CEO Dick Costolo
On June 22nd Carlota Sánchez presented the project #TwitterART to Twitter’s CEO Dick Costolo at Pabellón de las Artes of Jun (Granada). Some members of Twitter US attended the presentation. #Twitter ART is a project that makes use of Twitter to give voice to art pieces.
Carlota was congratulated by Twitter’s staff because of her “great capacity to communicate” and the “empathy generated with the audience” throughout the 30 minute event. More than 5,000 students pitched in the previous selection process. Congratulations Carlota!
We would like to finish the year by sending a huge thank you to all the students, parents and staff who have supported the numerous Arts events this academic year. Amongst these have been school shows, lectures, exhibitions, international and local trips, concerts, showcases and fundraising events. Parents have shuttled our ‘rising stars’ back and forth and helped to juggle other commitments, homework deadlines and pre-performance nerves. Our students have shown fantastic motivation and skill in refining, rehearsing and displaying their work. As an SIS community, we have been privileged to be witness to a whole wealth of new talent.
Congratulations also to Enola Gavira Gaviraand Leo Jaudel Melian, our MYP & DP Arts winners, who have surpassed all expectations with their sheer ability, professionalism and unstinting enthusiasm. They have both shone this year and we know they are destined for great things!
Thank you again for your support as we look forward to the next vibrant and inspiring year!
