Hiperbaric Challenge success

Congratulations to the team of students and staff who returned from competing in the Hiperbaric Challenge in Burgos this weekend.

The competition had 4 different phases:

  • Thorough Car inspection
  • Team and Project Portfolio presentation to the hiperbaric jury
  • Engineering Portfolio presented to jury made up of a group of engineers
  • Car Race: 3,5 Kms downhill

The team has a great learning experience developing many academic and life-skills throughout this STEAM project (Science Technology Engineering Arts Maths). Teamwork, critical thinking, real-world engagement and resilience paid off well, gaining the prize for the Engineering Project and a decent 10th place out of 28 competitors in our car category race.

What a way to end off the academic year!

The team is formed by a diverse and mix-age students from P6 to M5, who are already planning to extend this project next year to reach a greater number of pre-engineering candidates!!

Congratulations to:

  • Eduardo De Luque P6
  • Dante Garcia M1
  • Pablo Partal
  • Fernando Romero M2
  • Benjamin Looyens M3
  • David Partal  M5
  • Javier Rando M5

MUN conference at SIS – sponsorship request

SIS will hold its first Model United Nations (MUN) conference here in the school next September 20th – 23rd 2018. During this conference around 80 students from different schools from the Costa del Sol will debate on current major world issues.

By sponsoring or advertising SotoMUN you’ll be helping us create opportunities that students won’t find in the classroom, while bringing your brand to bright, curious and engaged young people – the world’s leaders of tomorrow. Our administrative team is ready to work with you to figure out how we can best achieve your organization’s promotional goals at SotoMUN, and to tell you more about our conference and our mission. Please contact us at sotomun@sis.gl before the end of June for more details of our sponsorship package.

Trinity Music Exams

23 students took Trinity music exams last week, sitting exams between grades 1 – 7 with a 100% pass rate! Instruments included piano, saxophone, trumpet, trombone and clarinet.

Duke of Edinburgh Award expeditions

The Duke of Edinburgh Silver and Bronze expeditions have just taken place with the silver students taking on an adventurous journey of 60 kms and 2 nights camping along the coastline from Pelayo to Punta Paloma and then back to Tarifa. The Bronze students did a shorter trek of some 25 kms and one night camping along the same coastline. They had to navigate and look after themselves as well as the remainder of their group during the expeditions. In total, 16 students have successfully passed the Expedition element of the Silver award and 20, the Bronze award.

Rock Camp

Don’t miss out on this year’s Rock Camp 2018!
Now in its fourth year, this unique music programme has been consistently and widely praised by all for its scope and impact on the participants. The kids – from 8 to 16 – not only receive pro-level vocal training, an introduction to an instrument, photo sessions, video shoots and exciting musical group activities, but they also get to record in a professional sound studio under the supervision of a real record producer – and in the end receive a beautifully produced CD of their recordings. Simply put, there’s no other summer camp quite like this one!

New this year! Rock Camp is thrilled to include for the first time, daily drum workshops with SIS drum teacher, Paul Skelton – and music from The Greatest Showman! It’s going to be the best summer camp ever!

– Tuesday 3rd July at Chambao Beach Bar

As a cancer survivor herself, former SIS student Danii set up her charity to help other children with cancer and their families, while she was still a student at our school, and we are delighted to announce that several current SIS students will be performing at this event next Tuesday.
