Message from the Head
Dear Parents and Guardians, I would like to begin by thanking you for an amazing year at SIS. It is a year that has seen us grow in strength, in diversity and internationalism. Your continued support and feedback is valued and essential as we move forward to continue to provide an outstanding education for your children. Last Thursday we celebrated the end of year with EC2; they came to school in a multitude of outfits, dressed as what they want to be when they grow up! A lovely display was held of their learning and skills throughout the year. Congratulations to the EC2 students and teachers! The M1 – M3 students took part in their student led conferences, displaying their learning and reflecting on their year. The M4 students began the start of their Personal Project journey, choosing a Global Context to complete a task of doing a Personal Project in a day. Quite a challenge!! M5 went on their end of year trip, wakeboarding at Marbella Cable Ski. Students split themselves between the pool, cable ski and the shade. A lovely relaxing day was enjoyed by all, reflecting on the year, their achievements and their work experience time. Meanwhile the P6 students celebrated their end of year, ahead of their graduation, with a barbecue at the San Roque Boarding house. A mix of great food, swimming, music and dancing prevailed, and all who attended enjoyed the day. Congratulations to the P6 students for their achievements and the P6 team for their continued support, help and guidance. Thursday ended with our summer concert. Students from primary and secondary displayed their talents and received awards for their achievements. Thanks to the peripatetic team, Miss Laura and Mr. Wickersham for a great afternoon of musical performances. Friday was a day of end of year trips with M1 going to Bahia Park, M2 going to Aventura Amazonia, M3 heading off to Isla Magica in Seville and M4 trying wakeboarding at Marbella Cable Ski. EC1 ended the year singing highlights from their favourite songs from their 5 units of inquiry. Monday was a day of celebrations with the P6 graduation and primary awards assembly in the morning and the secondary awards celebration. It was a lovely celebration of the students’ achievements this year across our school. Today we finished our school year with a wonderful and moving whole school assembly; so many excellent reflections by students and a spine tingling display of musical talent accompanied by some marvelous photos and video footage from our talented support staff. I would like to echo here my heartfelt thanks to all teachers and support staff, parents and, most of all, students! I wish you all a wonderful summer and look forward to welcoming you back at 8.50 am sharp on September 1st 2016. Best wishes James Kearney
Whole School News
M1 Triple EventOn Thursday 23rd June, M1 students opened the doors to Timber for the last time this year. They were proud to show their best work, screen their movies and open their gardens to their parents and other children.
Since Easter, the children have been working exceptionally hard to create gardens that reflect their personalities and commitment to improving our environment. Some gardens are mini eco-systems complete with terrapins, fish and frogspawn. Other gardens boast an abundance of flowers. One garden even has a self-sustaining waterfall. Other children showed their desire to create a sustainable environment by building a compost box, which they added to on a regular basis. They have made enough compost to keep the gardens nourished for many weeks to come. The garden project shows that our children can work together for a common goal, not only enriching their lives but also the whole school environment.
