Message from the Head
Dear Parents and guardians,Wow what a way to end the term! It always amazes me how the staff at SIS seem to do more and more as the term draws to a close! On Monday and Tuesday we hosted the EC1 and EC2 and the P1 and P2 Christmas shows. Songs like Wonky Donkey are still going round in my head!  I would like to publicly congratulate and thanks Mr. Luis for his energy and calmness. This is his first year here and he has certainly stepped up to the challenge. Both events allowed each child in EC1  – P2 to have their own little part, shine for a moment or two and have some fun. Moreover they really lit the festive spirit. Thank you to everyone who came to watch, and to everyone who helped to support and give the students this opportunity.

Tuesday had a rather chilly start with the Polar Bear challenge. The start line was crowded with excited students, teachers and parents. I would like to thank Mr. Gibson, the PTA and staff members for getting up extra early and helping to marshal the event. I am still defrosting from the 15-degree water. What a shock after a 1-mile run!

Finally today saw me taped to a wall!  Thank you to everyone who contributed to this fund raising event.  We managed to raise 150 € to help kit out the new classroom in Uganda ready for their new intake in 2017.

I would like to finish with wishing you all a wonderful Christmas. I hope you are able to find some time to disconnect from work and to spend some quality time with the people who love you most. Thank you for your continued trust with your most precious treasures.  Have a great start to 2017. We look forward to welcoming you back on January 9th at 8.50am in impeccable uniform!

Happy Christmas

Message from Emma Butler, Head of Primary

Congratulations to all the children from EC1, EC2, P1 and P2 who wowed the audiences on Monday and Tuesday in their Christmas shows. Parents and other guests were enchanted with their enthusiasm and confidence. A special well done to those children who stepped into fill parts on the day for classmates who were off sick. Thank-you to Mr.Luis and all the primary team who inspired, taught and supported the children, enabling them to achieve this success.
If there is anyone who would still like to purchase a DVD of the show, please contact out marketing department on marketing@sis.gl.

December Theatre Festival

Last week saw students from M4 and DP Theatre perform at the December Theatre Festival. We would like to thank you all of you who came to support this event.

The M4 drama group performed ‘Death and Life in a Circus’ written by our M1-M4 drama teacher Daniel Maloney. It was a very poignant piece and the ensemble delivered some beautiful moments with a clear message of unification and hope. The characterisations were challenging and varied and our fledging M4 actors presented us with engaging, humorous, often touching and confident performances.

The DP Theatre students astounded us with their 4 devised performances in line with IB Collaborative Project examination requirements. I think it would be fair to claim that the audience left the theatre feeling completely overwhelmed by both the intensity of the subject matters being tackled and the exemplary level of skill demonstrated by the performers.

M4 and El Cid, an interactive route through Spain

Dear parents, we would like to conclude this term by sharing with you the research work that the students have done on medieval Spanish literature, focused on Poem del Mio Cid, which tells the life of the Spanish hero Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar.
This fun and interactive way introduces students to our classics with the oldest Spanish epic text that we have conserved.

Sistech Academy

Since SIS students are privileged to be members of an IT learning environment that is an official Apple School. Our IT staff are not only trained by Apple but are themselves certified Apple Trainers. So uncertainties about using Apples vast suite of applications and devices are becoming second-nature to your children and the same level of expertise and teaching can be put at the disposal of parents too, and even other adults not yet members of the SIS family…
