Message from the Head
Dear Parents and guardians,Welcome back and happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful break and have returned feeling refreshed and ready for another fun packed term at SIS! It was lovely seeing everyone on the gate on Monday morning, hearing about children’s holidays and experiences.

On December 20th we received a visitor from Apple who informed us that Sotogrande International School is now an Apple Distinguished School. The team, led by Carmelo Sanchez has been working towards this very prestigious award for the last year. It really is a remarkable achievement as we are the first Apple Distinguished School in Spain. We will use the award to keep driving high standards through the use of technology and helping other schools to do the same.

Sincere congratulations to Oscar Jefferson who managed to reach the semi final of Junior Master Chef España. I personally enjoyed watching him conduct himself so professionally on the TV! He demonstrated wonderful culinary skills, great compassion for others and an amazing grasp of the Spanish Language! This week has been a whirlwind of experiences for Oscar. On Wednesday morning Oscar appeared on “La Mañana” and cooked with Marcos Móran at the British Ambassadors residence in Madrid. On Thursday, the story hit the British press and today he appeared live on British TV’s “This morning” programme with Philip Schofield and Holly Willoughby. You made all of us at SIS very proud, Oscar!

Well played to Sebastian Collins on finishing 9th in the Honda Junior Classic at the PGA National course in Florida! In tough and windy conditions Sebastian shot a fantastic 78 in the last round, which included his first ever hole in one, along with a brilliant birdie on the famous 18th.

Primary School News

Message from Emma Butler, Head of Primary

I would like to wish all our students and families a happy New Year.
On Monday it was lovely to see so many excited students as they arrived at school and the many new students settle in and become part of SIS.

Home/School Communication

SIS considers communication between home and school to be very important.  As we start the new term I would like to remind parents of the different ways in which you can keep up to date about what is happening in your child’s class and in school generally. It is important that parents can and do access the following. If you are experiencing any problems in accessing any of the following, please inform your child’s class teacher.

Newsletter.   Each Friday a newsletter is emailed to all parents. This newsletter includes important upcoming calendar dates and news on what has been happening within the school.

SIS App. This can be downloaded through Google Play and the App store to give you easy access on your mobile to the newsletter, the calendar, the Google sites, Managebac and much more SIS related information. When you download this, please allow Push notifications, as we will be sending future mail bulletins such as e.g. delays to trips, information about events and, should the need arise, notifications about school closures, through the APP.

School Newsletter 13.01.2017 img

Calendar.  All the important calendar dates are published on the school calendar. This can be found on the school website www.sis.ac or via the SIS app.

Class Sites. Each year group has a class Google site. Within these sites parents can find the curriculum information, suggested home activities, particular important information specifically relevant to that year group and a weekly insight into the learning that has been happening. This site can be accessed directly through the year group link or through the SIS app.

Whatsapp. The school, through the Parent Ambassador Programme led by Sara Hagloff, has created year group Whatsapp groups. The intention of these groups is to use them for communication of urgent messages from school that did not make the newsletter or class sites. Please could we ask that these groups are only used for this and that separate groups or ways of communicating are used for sharing of other information such as social events.

First Term Reports

All reports for Primary students were generated and made accessible on Managebac on the 21st December. If any parent is having difficulty accessing their child’s report please let the class teacher know.

P1 & P2 Lunchtime Activities

For this term’s lunchtime activities please see the link posted on the P1 and P2 class sites.

Visit from former student Viktorija Beglik

Lovely to see Vicky, who dropped in yesterday to say hello. She has recently graduated in International Politics from City University London and is returning to Moscow to work. Viktorija, who graduated from SIS in 2013, remarked how well Sotogrande and the IB prepared her for university. We hope to see her at the next SIS alumni event.

Sistech Academy

Since SIS students are privileged to be members of an IT learning environment that is an official Apple School. Our IT staff are not only trained by Apple but are themselves certified Apple Trainers. So uncertainties about using Apples vast suite of applications and devices are becoming second-nature to your children and the same level of expertise and teaching can be put at the disposal of parents too, and even other adults not yet members of the SIS family…
