Stephanie Birkbeck will be joining the Maths department and Theory of Knowledge team.  Stephanie has been working in the UK for many years and this is her first appointment overseas.

Mariana Nae will be joining the IT team as a Computer Science and Design teacher.  Mariana has been working in Romania for many years as a teacher of computers and Computer Science.

Helen Warrick will be joining our Drama and English B team.  Helen has been working along the coast and in the UK for a number of years as a Drama and English teacher.

Karen Guest will be joining Anne in the library and also supporting the learning support team with maths.  Karen has just finished her maths PGCE in Sussex.

Next week I will ask the new staff to write and introduce themselves to you, explaining their background a little.

Best wishes,

Jak Kearney

Creative Writing Contest Results

The results of the most recent coastal creative writing contest, held on our school campus and featuring SIS, Aloha and Swans, have just been announced. Swans were this year´s overall winners, taking first place in 3 of the 6 categories. SIS however performed extremely well in both English and Spanish Key Stage 5/IB Diploma categories. In English Katrina Moody won second place and narrowly missed winning her age group prize for the second year in succession. In Spanish we provided both winner (Daniel Garrigo Garcia) and runner up (Danielle Ernsten Schmidt).

These two finished well clear of their opponents and received exceptional marks from all the judges. We congratulate these three writers in particular but also applaud the efforts of all 12 of our competitors. They produced some very memorable efforts and will have learned much from the experience.
