Friday 24 th March – Wednesday 29 th 2017
As part of our Creativity, Action and Service (CAS) programme, students from D1 will be undertaking the 9th Expedition to the small Berber village of Asni (Marrakech), located in the foothills of the Moroccan High Atlas Mountains. In 2007, SIS established a firm relationship with Association Tiwizi, a local community based organisation that works in the areas of education, socio-economic development, environmental protection, capacity building and networking. Since then, this relationship has done nothing but strengthen and numerous valuable activities have been carried out. This trip has become an integral part of the CAS program, which is a core requirement for IB Diploma and offers a unique experience for the students.
The main purpose of the trip is to offer intercultural exchange opportunities, as well as hands-on service learning experiences for all involved. We achieve this by working hand in hand with local community members on activities such as: (1) building and rehabilitation works; (2) development of social entrepreneurship ventures; (3) fun educational activities with small children in the Association and in the Primary School and; (4) intercultural exchange with students from the Atlas High School. Students will also have the opportunity to enjoy recreational activities such as sport and music with the local people, trek in the Atlas Mountains and spend an afternoon in Marrakech.
