Great Britain Junior Padel Team

We are very excited to announce that four Sotogrande International School students have been selected for the Great Britain Junior Padel Team at the World Championships this year. D1 student Frankie Batt, and M2 students Ben Burgess, Charlotte Brien and Tilly Payne.

Frankie, who has been to three previous world championships is Great Britain Junior Padel Team captain and will be playing in the under 18 boys category. Ben Burgess will play in the under 14 boys category, and Charlotte Brain and Tilly Payne will play both in the under 14 girls.

XI World Junior Padel Championship

This year the XI World Junior Padel Championship is being held in Malaga, Spain in October, at Club El Candado.  Two years ago the championship was in Mexico, and the GB Junior Padel Team boys won the Bronze Trophy, coming third in the world, with Frankie Batt and his partner only narrowly losing to the eventual world champions Spain.

All the world’s top padel nations will be at the World Junior Padel Championship, including Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Chile, U.S.A., Finland, Italy, Mexico, Paraguay, Portugal, Uruguay, World Champions Spain and of course GB.

Training

Although all the Sotogrande International School student Great Britain Junior Padel Team members are currently busy revising for end-of-year exams, they have already started training as the World Championship is only five months away. Over the summer months they will be taking part in several GB training clinics, as well as coaching, mix-ins, tournaments and fitness conditioning to make sure they are at their peak come October.

The first GB Junior Padel Team clinic, where Sotogrande International School players will meet their coach, Argentinian Professional Mauri Andrini, and the rest of the team will be at the beginning of July in Sotogrande.  As well as Frankie, Ben, Charlotte and Tilly many of the rest of the GB team will be using Sotogrande as a training base over the summer months. And there are another two Sotogrande International School students who will be using the GB training clinics to try to impress the GB coach and secure places on the team.
