We are pleased to announce that Sotogrande International School (SIS) have been recognised as an Apple Distinguished School for 2016 – 2018 . SIS use Apple technology to help deliver the school’s educational goal of creating extraordinary educational experiences which help learners connect with their unique gifts and talents. They operate a 1 to 1 iPad programme in the primary school, allowing their youngest learners to explore technology and to choose different ways to capture their learning and a 1 to 1 MacBook programme in secondary, enabling students to further develop their skills and learn about industry level programmes through the curriculum. All teaching staff and classrooms are fully equipped with the latest Apple technology and the school has 4 dedicated Mac Labs and other shared areas equipped with Mac minis, thus empowering students and teachers to be creative and explore learning in an interactive and different way.

The Apple Distinguished School designation is reserved for schools that meet criteria for innovation, leadership, and educational excellence, and demonstrate a clear vision of exemplary learning environments.

We place great emphasis on technology as a tool to support learning at Sotogrande International School” said Carmelo Sánchez, Head of Information Technology at Sotogrande International School.  “One of our aims is  to prepare students for effective participation and success in the 21st century by integrating technology and learning, providing access for all children to laptops, iPads and desktop computers and ensuring students have access to online learning resources both at home and at school”. The selection of Sotogrande International School as an Apple Distinguished School highlights our success as an innovative and compelling learning environment that engages students and provides tangible evidence of academic accomplishment

From an NGO perspective Interactive Multi-Touch Books have opened a huge window of opportunity for the development work we do locally and globally in terms of creating and sharing extraordinary content with our partners, empowering the voice of youth to use education as a force for good in the world.

Using iPads helps to support one of our school aims of delivering personalised learning. Using programmes that match our unit of inquiry, students progress at a level and speed that is right  for them, in addition to allowing us, as teachers, to check their understanding and provide specific support where needed. iPads have become an integrated part of everyday lessons. Children love the fun, interaction and quickly become engaged in exploring topics and recording their findings in the many different ways available to them.

Hiria Gutiérrez Ozores,  Early Childhood Teacher & IT Specialist.

Using Apple technology in our Young Engineers Club has encouraged creativity and improved communication by allowing our students to share ideas when brainstorming and planning projects.  From a teaching perspective it allows me to track progress, take part in discussions and and give guidance at any time, even when students are working at home. Preparing designs to be made on the 3D printer and seeing their work come to fruition is such a rewarding and enriching experience for all involved, and using Interactive Multi-Touch Books (iBook Author) to record their learning journey provides an interesting and varied way in which to record evidence.”
